John Richards tells Tony Morris on Facebook that he has been told by Allan Taylor who frequently tours in Europe that the term 'Song Poet' is used to describe Singer Songwriters there. What a good and useful description.
The problem is that this term is only referred to on the Internet as a pejorative term used by the largely American Music Industry.

Folk Thought
BBC Radio 4 ‘Tweet of the day’ has returned and reminds us of the rich array of Birdsong, from Corncrake to Linnet and Song Thrush. Now it has gone Global it serves to remind us of the the rich variety of Folk Music from around the World and that 98% of musicians in the World make music without regard to notation or time signatures.
In the Folk Community many have lost the ability to appreciate the rich variety of voices from Duck and Raven through to Skylark and Robin. Appreciation of the ‘variety’ of voices is the essence of the ‘Folk Experience’.
Arguably, this shift has been made by educated educators much in the same way as minority languages are destroyed by colonisers.
